IEEEXtreme is an annual hackathon and competitive programming challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members and supported by Volunteer Proctors who are IEEE member, compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems. Many student branches from around IEEE Region 5 participated in the October 2018 competition against student branches from all over the world. Two teams from Rice and UH in the Houston Section and one from Louisiana Tech finished in the top three of Region 5. The team YoungSimpleNaive from Rice finished top in R5 and tenth out of a field of about 4000 teams worldwide. The Houston Section did a great job in promoting and supporting the competition for their student branches. Follow the rest of the story with pictures in the article submitted by South Area Chairman Chris Sanderson. More information including all the results for 2019 can be found at ieeextreme.org.
We congratulate all of our R5 Student Branch teams that participated in this year’s competition and encourage others to join in the excitement of the 2019 competition.
