Topic:On The Deep Water Horizon – Some Slides, Discussion, and Sharing of Insights
Abstract:This talk will address some interesting aspects of drilling operations in general and of the Deep Water Horizon, in particular, and will show some close up photos of the DWH rig and the recent explosion. After the talk, the floor will be open for a group discussion. The speaker does not present as a drilling expert but rather as an Electrical Engineer with great admiration for the enormous technological achievements of the drilling industry and a continual interest and curiosity about such things. He has spent many years of his career in the development of geophysical instruments and methodology, and in geophysical exploration contracting with the major oil companies, often working in close conjunction with well siting, drilling and production operations. He has also been involved in the analysis and development of borehole logging tools and the efforts to do ‘measurements while drilling’ (MWD) type logging. He has thus gained some useful insights into oil well drilling through such professional association.
Speaker:Dr. Darrell R. Word, PhD, PE
Speaker’s Bio’s:Dr. Darrell R. Word, PhD, PE is an electrical engineer with extensive experience in both academia and industry.
