Topic:Moore’s Law – Bent not Broken
Abstract:Much has been written about Moore’s Law. This presentation is not another revisitation of semiconductor scaling. Moore’s Law has been responsible for increased productivity and therefore higher standards of living across the globe. It is interesting to examine the impending end of Moore’s Law and what might replace it in the near term and foreseeable future. This is a highly speculative review of current industry trends and potential Moore’s Law extensions.
Speaker:Dennis Ferguson
Speaker’s bioDennis Ferguson is a microwave/analog engineer and a 50-years IEEE Life Senior Member. Dennis spent the majority of his career at Honeywell’s research center in Minnesota where he was involved in developing MMICs/RFICs. In addition, he has been involved in several startup companies in Florida and Texas, one of which was responsible for developing clockless logic. Mr. Ferguson sold his last startup company in 2014 and subsequently semi-retired with a side gig developing software for macOS/iOS platforms.He holds eight patents and has published or presented 38 papers over the course of his career.He received his electrical engineering degree at the University of Texas, Austin in the mid 1970s and his graduate degree from the University of Minnesota in the mid 1990s.
