Abstract: The JWST is a new space telescope observatory has been built and recently launched. This portends an exciting new capability to enable science discoveries from the Solar System to the edge of the Universe. The JWST and its instruments are sensitive to near and mid infrared wavelengths. The motivation for choosing these bands and expected types of science available will be discussed. The science results are not available yet as the instrument commissioning is currently in progress so this talk will focus on some of the technologies and design of this latest and largest aperture space telescope ever launched.
