Title: The World of Exascale Computing and Open Research Questions

Speaker: Michael Ignatowski- Sr. Fellow, AMD Research

Speaker Bio: Michael Ignatowski is a Sr. Fellow, leading AMD’s Research division in advanced memory technology and architecture for future systems. Prior to joining AMD in 2010, he worked at IBM for 27 years in the mainframe product division and the T.J. Watson Research division in Yorktown.  Michael holds over 25 patents, has participated on panel sessions at major conferences, and has given multiple invited talks and keynote presentations. 

While at AMD, Michael Ignatowski served as a Principal Investigator for the DOE FastForward and FastForward-2 research programs. He was also instrumental in AMD’s successful Frontier exascale system bid. 

Abstract: Michael Ignatowski will discuss the recent developments in exascale HPC systems for the United States, China, and Europe.  Following that, Michael will give a broad overview of some of the key open research questions the computer industry is now facing, covering both technology and architecture.
