October Chair Letter

Now that the summer’s heat is behind us, here are some updates for the fall.

-Are you curious about using social media in business? Attend the October 10 Consultants Network meeting and learn how you can use social media to improve your business.
Go to http://www.ieeedallascn.org

Speaking of social media, how many of you are members of Linkedin and the IEEE groups on Linkedin? At a recent Society Chairs’ meeting we learned about creating Linkedin groups. There’s already a Dallas Section group:

It’s http://linkd.in/dallassection (NOTE: This is a shortened link so don’t use LINKEDIN in the url. It’s LINKD…)

Why don’t you join? We encouraged the individual societies to form Linkedin groups so we can use the site for meeting notices and discussions. The Consultants Network, Engineering in Medicine and Biology (EMBS), GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) and CVT (Communications and Vehicular Technology) all have a group. Ask your society if they’ve formed a Linkedin group.

-We’ve updated our section website yet again. Please visit: ieee-dallas.org
We’ve added links that will interest our members. Email: dallaschair@ieee.org if you want to suggest a link.

-The calendar is a work in progress, but please check it as it lists the meetings you should attend. Remember, you will most likely get your next job from the people who know you. Let others get to know you at an IEEE meeting. If you’ve been laid off, it’s too late to build an effective network.

-We have a new advertising policy to promote activities of interest to our members. We will be able to offer more value to you with the revenue we receive. If you know of a company interested in advertising to our members on our website, please share this link with them:

-We are also offering sponsorship opportunities to companies who want to work closer with the Dallas Section of IEEE and our members. The companies who sponsor IEEE events get to know our members and have an opportunity to promote engineering activities that benefit our community.

-We’re getting ready for the list of officers candidates for next year’s section offices. That information should be coming shortly.

-Hope you can join us at Champs on Beltline on Oct 13, 5.30-7 for a networking Happy Hour with the Metroplex Technology Business Center. Check the calendar for more information.

As always, your board wants to know how to better serve you. Please send your ideas for website improvements and ideas for the section to dallaschair@ieee.org

Thanks again for your participation in IEEE.
