November Chairman’s Corner

So much is going on in the Dallas Section of IEEE.  You are checking our website regularly along with the calendar, right? I hope you’re participating in as many event as you can.  IEEE activities are certain to enhance your professional development. Please fill out the IP/Patent Society survey. The Engineering in Medicine and Biology is a revived society with many great meetings.

Recently, our Section Treasurer, Dr. Ravi Prakash, hosted an IEEE Senior Member uppgrade event at UTD.   Did you know that the you benefit (along with the Section) with Senior membership?

Only 8% of IEEE’s approximately 400,000 members hold this grade. The requirements are extensive experience and documented achievements of significance.  Many of you qualify. You might not have realized it!  I want to encourage more of our members to apply for Senior membership.  Here’s more information on Senior membership.

I hope to see you at our Holiday party on December 12.  The Consultants Network will host the section and it will be an opportunity to meet other IEEE members.  This could be the start of your senior member upgrade! (You need reference letters from other Senior members.)

IEEE continues to look for ways to add value to IEEE members.  Experis, a local IT staffing company, wants to support local  engineers and engineering.  Experis is becoming a sponsor of IEEE. As a sponsor they will provide programs for our members and be a resource for our members. Thanks to Experis for their support of the Dallas Section of IEEE.  We’re looking forward to working with them through 2012.

As always, I welcome  your ideas and suggestions.
