OVERVIEW The GlobalEM 2024 Symposium is unique in that it brings together international experts in high-power electromagnetics. This Symposium started as a small gathering organized on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by the late Dr. Carl Baum as the first Nuclear EMP (electromagnetic pulse) Meeting (NEM) in 1973. Since 1978, the SUMMA Foundation, a non-profit organization, has sponsored the Symposium. In 1994, the Symposium was held in Bordeaux, France, as EUROEM and subsequently rotated between Europe and North America as EUROEM and AMEREM, respectively. In 2015, the Symposium was organized in Jeju, South Korea, as ASIAEM. Beginning in 2022, the series was renamed GlobalEM and will continue to rotate annually among North America, Europe, and Asia. GlobalEM 2024 includes social/networking events, invited speakers, numerous technical papers, an exhibition, and a technical tour! AT&T Conference Center is ideally located in downtown Austin, near the University of Texas at Austin campus, restaurants and shops, as well as Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. A block of guest rooms have been reserved at the AT&T Conference Center at a discounted group rate. GENERAL INFORMATION This Symposium is organized by the SUMMA Foundation. The event is a part of the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer program, which offers a list of renowned and exceptional lecturers who each possess specialist knowledge within their field.The Queen Isabela Causeway Bridge Collapse DetectionJames Mercier, PEIEEE Central Texas Section Treasurer & Senior Upgrade CoordinatorOn September 14, 2001, an errant barge damaged the bridge between Port Isabel and Padre Island in south Texas. Five people died when they drove off the opened bridge in the dark. After the structure was repaired and reopened, James Mercier was tasked with designing and installing a way of warning drivers that the bridge had been damaged. The system restored local confidence in the repaired structure.Enjoy a box lunch provided by Life Members group and tour the unique Peel House at First Lutheran - the former home of William and Patti Jewett. This mansion in the Old North End of Colorado Springs was built in 1905 and occupied a half city block including house, carriage house, and elegant gardens.
