2020 Virtual Section Congress The Answers…to Membership Engagement in a Pandemic

On Friday, April 9th  –  11th 2021 the IEEE Region 5 East Area Chair and South Area Chair will be presenting at the 2021 Virtual Sections Congress on The Answers…to Membership Engagement in a Pandemicfacilitated by Christopher Sanderson, R5 South Area Chair, and Matt Francis, R5 East Area Chair.

Seminar Description: In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Governments from around the world issued restrictions on travel, gatherings, and meetings in an effort to limit the spread of the virus. Twelve months later people, businesses, and organizations have had to adjust to the norm of meeting virtually, and most IEEE conferences and meetings were postponed, cancelled or replaced with virtual meetings including 2020 Sections Congress.

But meeting virtually wasn’t easy with systems like ZOOM, Cisco’s WebEx, Microsoft’s TEAMS, Google Meets and so many other webinar systems. There were other challenges to consider such as security, speakers, participation engagement, logistics, and far too many other things to name. Some Sections were able to adjust while others struggled with these challenges. What if someone had “The Secret, An Idea, and now The Answer to Membership Engagement in a Pandemic.

This is the SC2020 session for you.

We have all had to where multiple and different hats during these challenging times of virtual meetings, grocery shopping, virtual graduations, and even families reunions. Matt and I are want to share the following message.

The health and safety of the IEEE community is our first priority and IEEE Region 5 is supporting these efforts.”

Following the advice of local authorities, most IEEE conferences and meetings were postponed or replaced with virtual meetings. In an effort to support our local community we identified some key webinars for our members and neighbors, visit our Events webpage for more details or visit our previous post Professional and Technical Development.  The opportunity to help during these challenging times of no travel and self coroneted is our small part of “Advancing Technology for Humanity”.

Please Stay safe, Stay healthy, Stay strong. But above all else, Stay grateful.
