Abstract: | Field Programmable Gate Arrays have been around for over 30 years are and are now into their 3rd generation. A convenient way to study them and their applications is to follow the timeline and their expanding capabilities. The talk uses Steve Trimberger’s retrospective on FPGA technology with introductory material and greater focus on applications. |

Speaker’s Bio: | Jim Brakefield Life Senior Member, IEEE He holds a BS-Applied Math from University of Wisconsin and Masters of Science (Computer Science and EE) also from UW. His professional career includes work in the Avionics, Semiconductor , Life Sciences and Communications industries as well as Image Processing and video. He has experience in assembly language programming on over a dozen processors usually in the context of hard real-time embedded systems. He has done FPGA projects: small, medium and not that large. He does circuit board design and systems architecture including microprocessors, FPGAs, power supply, analog and data conversion. He is currently examining computer architecture in the context of FPGA soft core processors. |
