Design and Optimization of High-Power Medium Frequency Transformers for Medium Voltage Applications
January 24, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Design and Optimization of High-Power Medium Frequency Transformers for Medium Voltage Applications IEEE PI2 Austin, January 24th, 2023, Tech Meeting via WebEx and In-Person 6 PM Central / 7 PM Eastern at Lupe Tortilla off MoPac. The WebEx information can be found in the meeting details here on VTools. Contact pi2-secretary@ieee.org if you have any questions or cannot find the WebEx details. If you attend in person at Lupe Tortilla, a $25 cover charge will be needed for the fajita dinner. For PDH hours, please email the PI2 Secretary, Haley Hirschfield at haleyhirschfield@ieee.org or pi2-secretary@ieee.org. Speaker(s): Zhicheng Guo, Ph.D, Agenda: Medium voltage solid-state transformers have been widely studied as the next generation technology for medium voltage applications such as smart distribution systems, traction systems, renewable energy systems and ultra-fast EV chargers. As one of the key components, the medium frequency transformer needs to process high power and provide high insulation capability. For MV high-power MFTs design, the challenge is the tradeoff among the competing objectives: 1) high efficiency, high power density. 2) superior thermal performance. 3) reliability: partial discharge free under high dv/dt high frequency voltage stress. The presentation will introduce our latest technologies about the MFTs optimal design.
