IEEE Houston Section – Multiphase Steady State Flow Simulation – May 28, 2015

May 28, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

Production engineering in the oil field is a complex domain that must consider current and future operational needs and safety concerns that are evaluated through computational intensive simulations. The production engineers and even the reservoir engineers rely heavily on pipe flow simulation to design the surface and down hole systems to safely and efficiently transport production fluids from the reservoir to processing facilities. Pipe flow simulators are usually classified by their ability to model single or multiple fluid phases and to capture transient or steady state phenomena. This presentation introduces the basics of multiphase steady state flow simulation, and draws on an analogue of Ohm’s and Kirchhoff laws to derive a solution approach and finally focuses on efficient run of the simulator by parallelizing the solution implementation.
