IEEE and the Black IMPACT Technology Experience Conference
Get ready for a captivating journey into the heart of cutting-edge technology and community collaboration! On the vibrant Wednesday of August 23, 2023, the dynamic IEEE R5 South Area Chair, Christopher Sanderson, took center stage at the Black IMPACT Technology Experience in the lively city of Kansas City, Missouri. Brace yourselves for an electrifying account of this historic conference that resonated with the pulse of the greater Kansas City business and community.
Picture this: The Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce, The Heartland Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation KC united forces to unveil the Black IMPACT Technology Experience in the heart of Kansas City. It was more than just a conference; it was a convergence of minds, a fusion of technology, and a celebration of collaborative community spirit.
As a key player in this technological symphony, I spearheaded three dynamic workshops, one of which delved into the realms of change with the intriguing title, “Who Moved My Cheese?” authored by the esteemed Spencer Johnson, M.D. In a twist of fate, my 60-minute workshop was squeezed into a compact 15 minutes, thanks to the unforeseen extension of another speaker’s session. The overflow of enthusiasm from attendees compelled us to spill over from the workshop room into the open space outside.
This wasn’t just another summit; it was a deliberate and essential gathering of luminaries from the technology and engineering spheres, all centered around the pivotal community collaboration space driven by technology. Our mission was crystal clear – every workshop, presentation, and keynote speech aimed not just to inform but to equip attendees with tangible, impactful takeaways that could be immediately applied upon their return home.
Amidst the technological fervor, the shining star of the conference emerged – the incredible Dr. Mae Jemison, the First Woman of Color in Space. Imagine the thrill of not just listening and learning from this trailblazing figure but also having the chance to meet her in person. Dr. Jemison’s presence added an extra layer of awe and inspiration to an already extraordinary event.
So, buckle up for an account that goes beyond the mundane, where technology meets community, and inspiration takes center stage. The Black IMPACT Technology Experience wasn’t just an event; it was an adventure that left its mark on the minds and hearts of everyone fortunate enough to be part of it.
