In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall in Texas on August 26 as a Category 4 storm, IEEE Houston Section volunteers and IEEE MOVE truck offer relief and help to those in need. The MOVE team started preparing for deployment on August 24, closely monitoring Harvey when it was still being labeled a tropical storm. The request went out to IEEE MOVE trained volunteers to help at the designated disaster relief site and many volunteers answered the call. IEEE Houston Section Co-Chair Alice Wang asked us all to stay safe and calm during this epic natural disaster. Because of epic flooding throughout the greater Metro Houston area many volunteers worked at American Red Cross relief centers throughout Houston. IEEE members, neighbors, and family volunteered at the Fallbrook Church disaster relief center.

“Although this is not the best time for many Houstonians and this will be a long recovery process, but I believe we are #IEEEHoustonSTRONG.” says CB Sanderson, IEEE ExCom Secretary. Harvey came and IEEE Houston Section is responding. Please share your pictures with us and contribute to the on going American Red Cross relief with your time, talent, and treasurers.
For more than 80 years the IEEE Houston Section has been serving the greater metro Houston Area with more than 4,000 higher grade members and over 300 student members living and working throughout the greater Metro Houston area. This will be a long recovery process, but the IEEE Houston Section volunteers will continue to help rebuild this city we call home. We are #IEEEHoustonSTRONG
