EVENT DESCRIPTION

This is an introductory workshop to engineering projects for elementary and middle school students. The participants will learn how to develop engineering projects by integrating software, hardware (Arduino) and components (switches, LEDs etc) using basic examples. By working in group, the participants will also learn about team building and collaboration.

  • We encourage participants to register as a group of two or three.
  • Individual participants may be combined to form a group of two or three, unless the participants register as group.
  • The participants must bring their own laptop (one per group). The laptop must run either on Windows or Apple OS and must have USB port.
  • Unfortunately, Chromebook will NOT be supported.
  • Parents are encouraged to attend and participate.
  • Teams will receive free Arduino Starter Kit (one per team).
  • Cost to attend: Free; Capacity: 40 (Total 10-15 teams)
  • Returning participants are encouraged to bring their Arduino kit given in 2017. This will help IEEE keep the cost low and include more participants.

About the Presenters: The workshop will be conducted by Bikram Mahajan (Purdue University), Prasenjit Shil (Ameren), Luke Taylor and Amy Guo (SLU), Abhijit Choudhury (Campbell Soup), Dr George Engle (SIUE) and other IEEE members.
