IEEE Texas Southern University “What Are Standards?”
On Wednesday, March 6, 2019 the IEEE Houston Section facilitate a What Are Standards? seminar at Texas Southern University. Christopher Sanderson, IEEE Houston Section Vice-Chair and IEEE Region 5 South Chair facilitated the seminar to over 35 student attendees many of which are not IEEE members.
Many were surprise to learn about the history of standards and the number of IEEE standards around the world in a number of various industries.
IEEE has an active portfolio of nearly 1,300 standards and projects under development, IEEE is a leading developer of industry standards in a broad range of technologies that drive the functionality, capabilities, and interoperability of products and services, transforming how people live, work, and communicate.
Part of the high interest from attendees, is having a more informed understanding of how standards may affect their field of work, study, or life. They quickly understand the career advantages they could have over fellow colleagues with a good understanding of standards. “Today’s job market is more competitive than ever. I believe having a strong understanding of how standards affect your field of work and study will allow you to be more competitive”.
With collaborative thought leaders in more than 160 countries, IEEE-Standards Association is a leading consensus-building organization that enables the creation and expansion of international markets, and helps protect health and public safety.
