Volunteers Needed for Science Engineering Fair Houston (SEFH) 2021

The 62nd annual Science Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH) is now accepting place judge volunteers. The Houston Section of IEEE has a long history of supplying place judges and other volunteer positions for the SEFH. The SEFH will be held virtually this year from February 13 – 18th 2021. Place judges review science fair projects from grades 6 – 12 in the categories and subcategories of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering. Volunteers must have a bachelor’s degree to be considered.
This year judges will be able to review these science projects entirely asynchronously, on their own schedule, and from anywhere with an internet connection.

Registration is easy, and the link also has all the information about how the judging process will be done this year.
Last year’s SEFH represented 150 Texas middle and high schools, had 815 science projects submitted, and had over 1000 students participate!
Place judges work in teams to review projects in subcategories like Civil/Mechanical/Electrical, to determine which projects get advanced to the next rounds of the competition.
SEFH is a fantastic STEM opportunity for Houston area students. Winners of SEFH are eligible to advance to State and other Science fair competitions. One of the goals of SEFH is to encourage students to pursue a scientific or engineering profession. Many thanks to the SEFH, the University of Houston, the local sponsors, and all the volunteers from Houston’s many professional societies who make this possible.
