NSBE 49 Convention Who Moved My Cheese? for Kids An IEEE-NSBE Facilitated NSBE Jr. Workshop
On Friday, March 24, 2023, at the NSBE 49 Conference “I AM S.T.E.M” NSBE Jr. Program Workshop, students embarked on an enchanting journey with the delightful friendship with Sniff, Scurry, Hem, and Haw as they navigate the intricacies of a maze in search of the elusive “Magical Cheese“ that brings them boundless joy. The tale unfolds with the anticipation of discovery and the joy of camaraderie as the characters work together to uncover the secrets of the labyrinth.
As the workshop unfolded, the students were captivated by the evolving dynamics among Sniff, Scurry, Hem, and Haw, exploring themes of resilience, adaptability, and the inevitability of change. The quest for the “Magical Cheese” becomes a metaphor for life’s journey, resonating with young minds as they grapple with the challenges of growing up and the uncertainties that come with it. Students brace themselves for a captivating narrative that not only entertains but also imparts valuable life lessons, making this enchanting tale a must-read for young readers eager to embark on a transformative adventure.
Special thanks to Christopher Sanderson, SMIEEE; IEEE R5 South Area Chair and Dr. Antonio Arnold-McFarland; John Deere for facilitating this NSBE Jr. Workshop (I AM STEM Program).
One of the memories that I carry with me (Christopher Sanderson) from the students (K3 – K8) was listening to many of the students share their experiences on how they have overcome challenges in their lives and how they could identify with characters of Sniff, Scurry, Hem, and Haw. When Spencer Johnson, M.D. co-wrote Who Moved My Cheese? for Kids in 2003 with his son Christian Johnson to help children view change as a positive thing that can lead to new opportunities. It’s hard to imagine still twenty years later the book continues help students to overcome challenges.
IEEE put the E in STEM, thank you to all of our volunteers who make a difference in their communities.
