Article: 2021 IEEE Day & IEEE HKN Founders Day

This year the IEEE Houston Section celebrated our 2021 IEEE Day & IEEE HKN Founders Day at TopGolf Katy. Although the event was more IEEE Caddy Shack TopGolf vs serious competion, it was a fun outdoor venue where members were able to celebrate and play in a safe environment with other fellow IEEE colleagues and guests.

IEEE Day is celebrated on October 5th and is a celebration for the first time in history when engineers worldwide and IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas in 1884. Worldwide celebrations demonstrate the ways thousands of IEEE members in local communities join together to collaborate on ideas that leverage technology for a better tomorrow.

IEEE Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Founders Day was celebrated on October 28th and is where our founders saw the need for an honor society – one that by invitation would recognize scholarship, character, and attitude. The vision is to promote the highest ideals of the engineering profession and form an organization where professionals and students help each other.

Some members had the opportunity to learn how to play golf and celebrate their victories of getting the ball downfield, while others like myself needed more practice but enjoyed all the great food and networking. A special thanks to Ernest Njouondo for coordinating this year’s event in such challenging times and David Gordon our private golf instructor and cheerleader even we couldn’t hit the ball quite right. Its greatly appreciated.
