Call to Action: IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Conference

The female STEM superhero, Marie Curie, once said, “I was taught that the way of progress was neither swift nor easy.” Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the only woman in history to ever win it twice, and the only human to ever win a Nobel Prize in two different sciences. Her advice is sage and teaches us the merits of persistent self-improvement.

What better way to persistently self-improve than to attend an IEEE conference?

Houston is uniquely positioned to benefit in 2019 from the IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Conference (WIE ILC). The sixth annual WIE ILC is going to be hosted in the United States from May 23-24 at the JW Marriott in Downtown Austin, Texas.

Theme

The theme of the conference is “Lead Beyond” and aims to accelerate innovative women who plan to change the world (or who are already doing so). The conference agenda is specifically tailored to help support and sustain women in technology fields around the world, and the conference itself aims to foster a community of support for women engineering students and professionals.

Conference information

IEEE WIE ILC is a huge international conference that is going to held so close to home this year. This conference is structured with trainings, informative sessions and hands on workshops throughout the day.  The trainings and workshops are hosted with the aim to increase retention of middle-aged and senior women in their technological fields.  There are many sessions for you to choose from depending on your interest and include engaging tracks on innovation, empowerment, executive leadership, and disruptive technologies.

Speakers

Many prolific women engineers who are experts in their respective fields are selected to head these sessions. Keynote speakers include Candace Worley (VP and Chief Technical Strategist at McAfee) and Victoria Mitchell (VP Technology Services Group of Arm Ltd). The first day of the conference also includes a career fair and exhibits parallely organised to technical talks and professional development sessions.

Since the conference is in Austin, TX, attendees in Houston can attend the IEEE WIE ILC and make the trip very cost effective since traveling to the event is easier than flying!
