Dear IEEE Houston Section Members

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Nef Torres, Engineering Manager of Substation Relay and SCADA, CenterPoint Energy.  We were notified over the weekend that Nef was involved in a fatal accident while vacationing in the Caribbean.

Nef was an active Houston Section member and joined as a student member in 2003 while attending the University of Houston.  He was active with the IEEE Power & Energy Society, Power System Relaying Committee (IEEE PSRC), and reviewed several standards at their working group meetings.  He delivered guest lectures for the IEEE Houston Section members on Transmission System Protection Schemes.  He was also a board member of the Transmission & Substation Design & Operations Symposium (TSDOS), which promotes best practices and innovations within the realm of transmission, substation design, and operations of the Power & Energy Society.

This is a tragic and difficult time for Nef’s family, friends, and coworkers. Please keep Nef’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
