Applications are being accepted for the 2013-2014 Academic Year for the IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative (IEEE PES S+). The goal of the initiative is to increase the number of well-qualified, entry-level engineers in the power and energy industry. Under this program, recipients can graduate with recognition as an IEEE PES Scholar, receive up to US$7,000 in multi-year scholarships and gain career experienceThe application deadline is 30 June 2013.
Additionally, the top IEEE PES Scholar from each IEEE Region will be selected as the IEEE PES John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar. These 6 individuals will each receive an additional $5,000 for school expenses (tuition, books, student fees, etc.), IEEE and IEEE PES Student Membership for 12 months and, a travel honorarium up to $1,000 to attend the IEEE 2014 PES General Meeting.
To be eligible, an individual must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, reside in IEEE Region 1-7 and be enrolled full-time at a university or college with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). The higher education institution must have an ABET-accredited, 4-year electrical engineering program and offer undergraduate courses in power engineering. Engineering students early in their college careers are encouraged to apply, even if in June 2013 they have not yet declared electrical engineering as their major. In Fall 2013, the individual must be enrolled in an electrical engineering program working toward a bachelor’s degree.
