On Tuesday, April 23, 2018 the IEEE Corpus Christi and Kingsville Student Branch sponsored a seminar “What Are Standards?” facilitated by Christopher Sanderson, Region 5 South Area Chair and Standards Education member volunteer along with Bob Shapiro, Region 5 Director who also added additional insight on the importance of IEEE Membership, Engagement, and Career Development opportunities. The seminar was attended by both students and local IEEE professional members.

“If you don’t know the rules of the game, you can’t play the game to win. This seminar remains one of the most highly attended and engaging seminars I’ve had the pleasure of sharing” says Christopher Sanderson.  The seminar is centered around having open, current, and historical conversations on some of the most pressing industry and technology challenges and how standards play a vital part in shaping them. Standards affect our field of work and recreation, understanding these standards can help advance your career.

A special thanks to Dr. McLauchlan, Kingsville Student Branch faculity sponsor and Dr. Mehrubeoglu, Corpus Christi Student Branch faculty sponsor. Because of your IEEE leadership and support these braches continue to impact their respective instituions and our IEEE community. “Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It’s about impact, influence and inspiration. Impact involves getting results, influence is about spreading the passion you have for your work, and you have to inspire team-mates and customers.” By Robin S. Sharma
