The Stryker Mako Orthopedic Robot
The Stryker Mako Orthopedic Robot
The program will include an overall presentation on the Mako robot, what it is, how it works and wht it does. Mako robotic assisted surgery has been used for over a million knee and hip joint replacements during the last 18 years. Precision modeling and placement allow less soft tissue damage and greater bone preservation leading to faster recovery and better outcomes when compared to unassisted procedures. Several Lone Star IEEE members can attest to the benefits of robot-assisted procedures. The meeting will be at a facility of the San Antonio Orthopedic and Spine Treatment Center (TSAOG). Representatives of the Orthopedic group and/or Stryker Inc. will discuss the robot and provide a demonstration of its operation and capabilities. 19138 US-281 N San Antonio, TX , San Antonio, Texas, United States, 78258, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/460446

Tour of the Colorado Computer Museum
Tour of the Colorado Computer Museum
The mission of Colorado Computer Museum is to collect, conserve, and exhibit all kinds of information processing technology, preserve the knowledge of it, illuminate its effect on society and foster understanding of the underlying science. Today, the museum has collected over 3000 artifacts. Our tagline is "A Hands-On History of Information Technology," indicating that we value hands-on interaction. By "information technology," we mean any technology that processes information, not just literal computer systems. We are working on a future large-scale exhibit, "A Brief History of The Computer" illustrates the development of the electronic digital computer from the late 1930s to what became the ubiquitous desktop computer of the 1980s. Also included in the exhibit space is our Cray-2 supercomputer and a Wall of Weird and Wonderful items that are sure to spark some interest.
