Life Members are those IEEE members whose age is equal to or greater than 65 and whose age plus years of membership add up to 100. For example if you are 70 and have been an active member for 30 years, you qualify. Advancement to Life Member is automatic upon qualification. Life members pay no dues and qualify for very deep discounts on most IEEE products including conferences.
There are seven Life Member Affinity Groups (LMAG) in IEEE Region 5. LMAGs are like Chapters and are attached to a local Section. LMAGs which report at least two meetings per year qualify for a $200 rebate. LMAGs which have outstanding programs and activities may be selected by the IEEE Life Member Committee as an Outstanding LMAG. Central Texas (Austin), Oklahoma City, and Wichita Sections in Region 5 were chosen as the 2014 Outstanding LMAGs in Region 5 by the LMC based on their activities reported in 2013.
Life Members support the Life Members Fund of the IEEE Foundation which in turn supports a number of activities and initiatives through their grants program. Life Member Activities in Region 5 are coordinated at the region level by the Region Life Member Coordinator. The coordinator for 2014-2015 is Ross C Anderson.
Sections with a LMAG are encouraged to report their LMAG activites. Sections without an LMAG are encouraged to explore forming one. Additional details can be found by either contacting the Region LM Coordinator, or the Life Members Committee at life-members@ieee.org, or call (732) 562-5501.
